What we’re about
The St. Louis Unix and Linux Users Groups hold regular meetings with technical presentations and discussions. Our topics frequently involve Unix, Unix-like Operating Systems, Linux, BSD, and other Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) applications, products, projects and services. All of our meetings are free and open to the public.
The St. Louis UNIX Users Group (SLUUG - www.sluug.org) is a professional, not for profit, vendor-independent organization dedicated to promoting Open Systems, Open Standards, Open Source and the UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems (such as Linux and BSD). Our purpose is to provide a forum for exchanging information about open systems, products, services and architectures.
We often cover commercial UNIX systems, BSD (including MacOS & iOS), and many Linux distributions.
Primary activities are meetings which can include organized presentations, calls for help (and answers), and solving the problems on the systems brought to the meetings.

It's widely used to encrypt data sent between applications, like: web browsers and servers, email, instant messaging, voice over IP, ...ensuring privacy and data integrity. Think of it as a secure tunnel for your online communications. TLS is a proposed by The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) "open standard". First defined in 1999, the current version defined in August 2018.)

The Saint Louis MO, STL Linux Users Group (STLLUG) meets monthly to talk about Linux. This GNU/Linux Users Group usually holds its meetings on the third or fourth Thursday of every month. Meetings are free and open to everyone.
At 6:30 PM CST we start with introductions, announcements, current events of interest, and a general CALL FOR HELP segment. Then we will go into the presentation of our main topic, sometime around or after 7:00 PM CST.

We hold an Online Linux Configuration Workshop when nothing else more interesting comes up, or when there is no other event or activity scheduled. Problems with other operating systems and hardware are also frequently fixed. New software tools are often demonstrated.
Linux is an Internet capable Networking Operating System that provides many fully functional applications that perform well on both older and new computers. Most Linux distributions are free or low cost and provides an extremely reliable and cost effective alternative to high priced proprietary software.
The online workshop is where we usually examine, troubleshoot, fix and repair difficult hardware and software configuration problems for Linux newcomers. We have have had considerable success solving problems remotely.
If we ever get back to face-to-face meetings*,* you would bring your laptop or PC to our hands on workshop to troubleshoot your Linux installation, network connection or X Window GUI configuration problem. We have full connectivity to the Internet on site and know how to use it. Just remember to bring your laptop or your PC with monitor, keyboard, mouse, cables, cords, power strips and two blank discs or a USB thumb drive.
