TUTORIAL: EMACS editor intro
by Steve Stegmann
Emacs is an editor with rich options. It has been around for many years and has grown enormously. Vim is usually considered the alternative editor to emacs but there are other editors as well.
This will be a very basic introduction to emacs. It will feature starting, exiting, and saving files. It will also give you the basics of moving around and using a few of the control keys and internal command line functions. My working version of emacs, set up for the C language, has 2,832 command line functions. It will also cover making global changes in a file, using a string or regexp as the target to be replaced. You’ll understand how emacs uses buffers to keep things organized.

This should give you enough familiarity for the upcoming presentation on advanced emacs we plan for next month.

MAIN: "Kubernettes, SUSE Rancher, OpenSuSE LEAP to SLE(SuSE Linux Enterpriseel ), config SALT.... maybe some pepper?”
by Michal Carrington, SUSE corporation, Kansas City

  1. A look at what's new in SUSE Rancher 2.6, Kubernettes.
  2. Details on what OpenSuSE LEAP -> SLE (SuSE Linux Enterprise) path is & their relationship.
  3. And a showcase of "configuration management” using "SALT" - it's time if you're not currently utilizing it. I'll demonstrate some useful commands that every linux system administrator would love to help aide and automate their jobs. It will just be a teaser, but as I build out the lab further we'll see some enhancements.

=============================================================
SLUUG is your forum for exchanging information about OPEN standards, OPEN systems, OPEN source, products, services and architectures.

We usually start the general meeting with our BASE introductory level session (often focused on personal computing), which may include either simple tutorials, displays of newly discovered web sites, command line wonders, demonstrations of useful applications, amazing graphical packages, major resolution of long standing anomalies, blinking lights, or quantum shifts in both time and space. Then we will have our usually quick welcome, introduction, administrative announcements, and a Call For Help - Questions and Answers Period.

Meetings are every 2nd Wednesday of the month from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

Details will be published on https://www.sluug.org/ when available.
