Digital LEDs are great for those non=static holiday lite displays. How do they work? The WLED sftwr package tells them what to do. You run WLED on an ESP32, which something similar to a Raspberry Pi or more to an Arduino.

(from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESP32:)
ESP32 is a series of low-cost, low-power system on a chip microcontrollers with integrated Wi-Fi and dual-mode Bluetooth. The ESP32 series employs either a Tensilica Xtensa LX6 microprocessor in both dual-core and single-core variations, Xtensa LX7 dual-core microprocessor or a single-core RISC-V microprocessor and includes built-in antenna switches, RF balun, power amplifier, low-noise receive amplifier, filters, and power-management modules... ... ... We figured this is a “different" holiday season due to the CoVid pandemic. Too many UNvaccunated people and too many UNmasked, so large social gathering like the annual “all techie holiday party” would just be an opportunity to irresponsibly feed the virus and get it mutating. The stlLUG mtngs are usually on the 3rd Thurs of each month from 6:30PM to 9:00PM.
