Hi Members. In these politically charged times, it has newly become necessary to clarify what is and is not permitted in terms of speech or behavior in MeetUp's Terms of Service, which govern. I've studied the Terms of Service closely and can email them to anyone or you can just read them yourself. What I found was that Meetup does not permit the banning of political speech, or of speech regarding any public figure, period. If I were to ban political speech about, say, Trump, or Biden, or Richard Nixon, or Abraham Lincoln, or if I banned the singing of Bob Dylan's classic political protest song, "The Times They Are a Changing", I'd be banned from MeetUp possibly if a member filed a complaint. I'd suggest members all give the MeetUp Terms of Service a careful read for yourself, don't take my word for it, and see what kind of speech IS banned, like hate speech, threats, and the like. If you want to play Scrabble in a say, "sterile," or anti-social environment, with political speech banned, when you can clearly see in my group description there is no ban on any kind of socialization or discussion topic (it's a Scrabble AND Social Group). It literally says there will be "lively discussion," without further qualification. If you don't want to socialize, and be "anti-social," this group really isn't the place you should be and you can, if you wish, vote with your feet. You can start your own MeetUp group, pay the $10/m fee, and try to ban political speech, or speech about media company bias, or anything, and see what happens the first time someone reports it to MeetUp as a violation. So, let the games, and lively discussion, begin.
