Let’s enjoy a hike to the one of the Japan's 100 Famous Mountains: Hyakumeizan Daibosatsurei while chatting in English!
Location: Yamanashi Prefectures
Elevation: 2057 m (summit)
Ascend: 630 m / Descend: 1,390 m
Total Hike Distance: 10.5 km
Total Hike Time: About 6.0 hours (including lunch break:45min)
Difficulty: Moderate (ideal for beginner to intermediate hikers)
★ Highlights ★
Panoramic Views: The mountain is well known for its breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji, the Southern Alps, and Okuchichibu peaks. On clear days, hikers are rewarded with sweeping vistas.
Gentle Trails: The hike is not extremely steep, and many trails are suitable for beginners or casual hikers. Families and groups often enjoy walking along the wide ridges.
Historical Significance: The name “Daibosatsu” (Great Bodhisattva Pass) comes from Daibosatsu Pass (大菩薩峠), a historically important route mentioned in literature, including the famous novel Daibosatsu Tōge by Kaizan Nakazato.
● Participation Fee: 1000 yen
(Paid in cash at Kai-Yamato Station on JR Chuo Main Line. This covers only organizing and planning costs)

- Train fare to Kai-Yamato Station
- Bus fare to Trailhead (Kamihikawa Pass)
- Bus fare to Enzan Station + Train fare home.
- Optional: Hot Spring (Daibosatsu no yu, 700 yen)
- Optional: Dinner at Daibosatsu no yu
● Meeting Details
- Time: 8:50 AM ( The bus leaves at 9:20. Please be on time. If you miss the bus, you might have to take a taxi to catch up)
- Location: Kai-Yamato Station (JR Main Chuo Line) only one exit.
● What to Wear
- Comfortable clothes (summit temp: ~23℃ expected )
- Proper hiking shoes required!
→ No sneakers, running shoes, or casual footwear - Light jacket (optional, mornings may be chilly)
● What to Bring
- Sun, heat, and rain protection (e.g., hat, sunscreen, rainwear)
- Drinks (also available at huts along the trail)
- Lunch & snacks
- Towels
- Plastic bags for trash/wet clothes
Restrooms are available in some of the mountain huts.
After the hike, we can visit Daibosatsu no yu, a natural hot spring near the trail end — perfect for soaking and relaxing your tired body!
● Approximate Schedule
- 8:50 AM — Meet at Kai-Yamato Station (only one exit)
- 9:20 AM — Take a bus to the trailhead (Kamihikawa pass)
- 10:01 AM — Arrive at trailhead, final prep, start hiking
- 12:05 PM — Arrive at Kaminari-iwa, enjoy lunch together and rest (50 minutes)
- 12:55 PM — Reach the summit of Daibosatsurei and begin descent
- 3:55 PM — Finish hike, arrive at bus stop (Daibosatsu-pass trailhead)
- 4:03PM — Take a bus to Enzan Station (for those not joining the hot spring)
- 4:10 PM — Visit Daibosatsu no yu (hot spring), enjoy hot spring and dinner
- 6:33 PM — Take a bus to Enzan Station (Last bus to Enzan)
- 7:00 PM (approx.) — Arrive at Enzan Station (JR Chuo Main Line)
- 7:17 PM JR Express Kaiji No52 to Shinjyuku Station : Advance Reservation recommended)
- 7:20 PM JR Local Line bound for Otsuki → Takao → Shinjuku
