Mind training (Tibetan: lojong) is a central Mahayana practice aimed at shifting the habitual focus from self to others. The teaching emphasises:

  • Using everyday life, especially difficult people and challenging situations, as fuel for practice.
  • Recognising that all beings are essential for developing bodhichitta, the altruistic intention to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all.
  • How our mistaken way of seeing the world leads to self‑cherishing and self‑protection, which are the cause of suffering, and how mind training helps dissolve these tendencies.

The day is structured into four one‑hour sessions, each including:

  • A period of sitting meditation
  • Listening to a section of the teaching
  • Time for personal reflection
  • Space for questions

Participants will reflect on Geshe Langri Thangpa's 'Eight Verses of Mind Training' - a work that summarises the essence of lojong into 8 short verses for contemplation in daily life. Texts will be provided, you may find it helpful to bring something to take notes.

The day will be led by Miranda and Rachel, both students of Lama Jampa Thaye.
