Sunday Short Walk June 29th 2025
Sale Water Park/Chorlton Water Park

This is an easy stroll around Sale Water Park and onwards to Chorlton Water Park via the River Mersey and returning by the same route.

Meeting time at Brooklands is 10am with a view to starting our walk at 10:30 from the bottom car park outside the Boathouse Restaurant.

There are toilets here and a cafe where you can grab a takeaway drink and later on an ice cream van always makes an appearance.

Best route to Sale Water Park from Brooklands:(8 minutes by car):
1. Head north-west on Brooklands Rd towards Framingham Rd
2. Sharp right onto Marsland Rd/A6144
3. At the roundabout, continue straight to stay on Marsland Rd/A6144
4. Turn right onto Northenden Rd/A6144
5. Keep left to continue on Old Hall Rd/A6144
6. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and stay on Old Hall Rd/A6144
7. Exit the roundabout onto Old Hall Rd/A6144
8. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Rifle Rd
9. Exit the roundabout onto Rifle Rd
10. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit
11. Slight right towards Cow Ln
12. Turn right
13. Turn left
14. Turn right
15**. Arrive at location: Sale Water Park and park in lower car park outside the Boathouse Restaurant**

I am going straight to the start and will be outside the Boathouse from 10am

Please text me if you are going straight to the start.

The walk distance is approximately 6 miles graded E/F grade-a predominantly flat route on well established paths with a tiny bit of ascent. If it rains the paths may be slippy/muddy.
I reckon the walk takes about 3 and a half hours allowing for coffee at Chorlton.
The main hazard will be the number of people walking because the bridge linked to Chorlton Water Park is currently out of action.

So no dogs please on this occasion because of the volume of other walkers and their pets!

We walk round the Water Park up one side of the Mersey to Jackson's Boat-cross the bridge there to continue our leisurely stroll up to Chorlton where we can stop for coffee and a snack before reversing our route back to the Boathouse car park.

Post walk drinks-some folk like Jacksons Boat which is 2 minutes away. Other hostelries are available and there is Treetops Cafe in the upper car park which serves a selection of refreshments and has plenty of picnic tables.

If you normally use walking poles and wear gaiters carry on this fine tradition please.

Sun cream/hats/waterproof coats and plenty of water and your usual selection of food /water are a good idea.

I will advise of any last minute changes due to inclement weather on Sunday morning.

Very much hoping you can join me on this stroll.

Kind regards
