Sunday 13th July - long walk - Kinder Low - Grade B - 9 1/2 miles

Very many of you will be familiar with a version of this walk. It’s another favourite from our back-catalogue and a bit of a workout - but we believe it’s worth the effort.

From the car park at Bowden Bridge, we’ll follow the road for a short distance before picking up bridleways and footpaths above Kinder Reservoir. Our route takes us on up William’s Clough. We follow its lively stream steeply up to the Pennine Way, crossing the water at multiple points. Waterproof boots and a good stick are highly recommended.

Once up, we have one more steep ascent (bring your sugar-based incentive of choice!) before following a much more level path round to Kinder Downfall and lunch.

Our walk then takes us on to the trig point at Kinder Low. From there, it’s on to Edale Rocks; down to the medieval monument of Edale Cross, and down the bridle way back to the car park.

This walk could be challenging for some in places with sustainedly steep climbs for most of the morning (total ascent: 2,023ft); the odd scramble, and uneven, rocky footpaths. It’s a great one, though, and the views lie on a scale from sensational to breathtaking.

Parking is £6.60/day in Bowden Bridge car park (coins only/no change given. No card payments but you can pay on the RingGo site . The car park is location 51705) or park for free on the road.

Leave Brooklands at 9.00am and meet in the car park in time to start the walk at 10.00am. We’ll be going direct to the start. Please let us know in advance if you are, too, so we know to wait for you … we have no phone signal in those parts.

Toilets available at the start/finish at Hayfield Caravan and Camping Club site, which is just over the road from the car park.

No dogs.

The forecast suggests it could be warm and sunny so remember to bring a hat; suncream, and plenty to drink.

If you have any questions/reservations as to whether this is the right walk for you, please drop us a line at holdencheryl@hotmail.co.uk.

Directions to Bowden Bridge car park:

From Sale:
Take the M60 eastbound.
Come off the motorway and on to the A34 heading towards Wilmslow.
Come off the A34 on to the A555 heading east towards Poynton.
Stay on the A555 right to the end where you come to the junction with the A6 towards Buxton.
Turn right on to the A6.
Stay on the A6 though High Lane and Disley.
As you leave Disley there’s a set of lights and a junction with a left turn into New Mills.
Take the left turn and head into New Mills on Albion Road past the Swizzles factory.
Continue on the same road through New Mills and Birch Vale until you come to the junction with the A624 on the outskirts of Hayfield.
Turn right on to the A624 and then immediately left into Hayfield village.
Follow the (narrow) road through the village past the George hotel.
There’ll be a church on your left and once you’ve gone past that turn right onto Bank Street.
The road immediately bears right on to Kinder Road. Follow the road out of the village, past the Sportsman Inn and about a mile out of the village you’ll see the car park on the left.
