Sunday 3rd August walk 8.5 miles - Castleton ridge

Castleton ridge walk – allegedly the most popular walk in the Peak District.
The walk goes along fields from Hope to Castleton then a steep climb up to Mam Tor and the Castleton ridge incorporating a steep climb up Back Tor and Lose Hill and then descending down back to Hope. A lower-level path can be used for those who don’t want to ascend Back Tor and Lose Hill. Total walk distance is 8.5 miles.
Total ascent is 1532 ft so this is a C grade walk bordering on D grade.

Risks – exposed tree roots early on, a few easy to navigate stiles and gaps through walls.
This walk isn’t suitable for dogs as there is livestock in the fields and the steepness of one of the ascents.

Meet at Brooklands at 8:50 to leave at 9 A.M.
The journey from Sale should take about 1 hour so I Hope (see what I did there) to start the walk around 10:15.
Given that the internet signal may be poor around Hope let me know if you are going direct so that I know to expect you.

There is Hope Long Stay car park (pay and display £6.80 all day) on the A6187 on the right-hand side (coming from Castleton) shortly before the meeting point.
The car park ticket machine accepts card payment or coins (no change given for overpayment).
If you don’t want to park there or its full look for nearby parking off the main A6187 or on/off side roads from Edale road.
Please meet by the bus stop at the T junction of Castleton Road (A6187) and Edale road in Hope.

We can use the toilets before the walk at the Old Hall Hotel as I have said we will go for a drink there post-walk and there are toilets in Castleton which is about 1 hour into the walk.
