Wed Evening Walk 6 Aug Styal 3 Miles

Hi all,

My turn this week for the Wednesday walk which will start from The Ship pub on altrincham road, Styal. An undulating walk from styal village towards carrs car park and back through styal mill yard up to the village and back to the pub for post walk drinks.

Please park on the road where there is a free space, there is limited parking and so please car share.

Aprox 3 miles, flat F grade

Risk assessment:

Usual care required for slips trips and falls.

We start on a busy road and so care required when crossing to pub for bathroom break at start and pub at end of walk.

If you require walking sticks please bring as there is one down hill section on a metalled road with uneven cobbles. Plus the walk up through the mill yard is a gradual walk up to the village.

There is live stock in neighbouring fields and non of the route you will be pleased to hear goes through fields with cows 🐄 😀 !

Dog walkers are welcome if dogs are kept on a lead as there are sections close to farms and livestock and out of courtesy to other walkers, joggers etc using public foot paths.

We will be walking close to streams and rivers so attention is required to stay away from bank edges and fallen tree debris and keep to well marked paths and water crossing points.

Timings/Directions:

Meet Brooklands 6:55 to leave at 7. Simon Phillips has kindly agreed to meet and greet and please share lifts as there is limited parking at the start. Toilets at the beginning are at the Ship Inn.

Turn Right onto Brooklands Road.

1.3 miles At roundabout take 1st exit onto Altrincham Road /A560

3.0 miles at roundabout take 3rd exit onto the M56 slip road to Birmingham/M6/Chester/Manchester Airport

3.4 miles merge onto M56

4.7 miles at Junction 5, exit towards Manchester Airport

5.0 miles continue onto M56

5.6 miles exit onto Ringway Rd W/A555 towards Wythenshawe/Wilmslow/Gatley/B5166/Business Park. Continue to follow A555

7.0 miles turn right onto Styal Road/B5166 Continue to follow B5166

8.0 miles turn right onto Altrincham Road

8.1 miles turn left onto apprentice lane /Farmfold destination will be on the right.

8.2 Arrive at destination
