Hello All
Here are the details for next Sunday’s longer walk, which is a joint walk with Stockport Group (SWOG)
Walk distance - 10 miles
Walk grade – D
Total ascent – 1500 feet
We firstly walk generally southwards to overlook the Sett Valley, turning sharply to contour along the slopes of Lantern Pike before climbing to the summit. From there we walk north following the Pennine Bridleway before ascending west then north onto Cown Edge, where we plan to stop for lunch. We then continue along the Edge northwards to Coombes Edge before turning sharply southwards and descending to walk back to Rowarth along lower level paths, tracks and lanes.
Most of the walk is on lanes, tracks and bridleways and the going is good underfoot, with only minimal encounters with mud. There are some steepish slopes, some uneven surfaces and a couple of wobbly stiles. The group will need to take care on country lanes with the potential for motorised traffic. The area is very popular with mountain bikers, who may be travelling downhill at high speed on lanes and bridleways. There are sheep on the moors and in some fields on the walk so no dogs.
Coffee and lunch breaks planned.
Meet Brooklands Station Approach 08.50 onwards for 09.00 departure in shared transport
Start point – Rowarth village car park, Goddard Lane, Rowarth
