This Sunday's shorter walk is from Vernon park in Stockport, and approximately 7 miles of beautiful undulating countryside. The route takes in Woodbank park, the river Goyt, Chadkirk and the Peak Forest canal. After the walk we will take the 100 meter drive to the Park inn for refreshments. Please bring a packed lunch with you. There aren't any toilets at the start of the walk, but there are plenty of trees 😉. There are toilets near the lunch stop after approximately 3.5 miles.
The walk is grade E, with 500 feet of ascent over the length of the walk. There is a short ascent of around 120 feet at the start of the walk on a tarmac path. From then the path is a dirt path on undulating terrain, following the river Goyt to Chadkirk, where we'll stop for lunch. From there we continue to the Peak forest canal, and then through Bredbury until we return to the river Goyt and back to the start. The paths should be good, although there maybe some muddy sections given the recent rain, so good walking shoes are a must, and poles maybe useful for anyone who has balance issues or prefers to walk with poles. A reasonable level of fitness is required given the undulating nature of the walk.
We will meet at Brooklands at 10am for those wishing to car share, leaving by 10.15am. For those going straight to the start, we will meet on Vernon Park car park (free) on Stockport Road West, at 10.30am and commence walking soon thereafter.

Directions from Brooklands: M60 to Stockport, leave juncton 27, Portwood. Take 4th exit onto Carrington Road, B6104. At traffic lights with the "Park Inn" on your right, bear left and continue for around 100 meters, and the entrance to the car park is on your right. If you go across the river Goyt, you've gone too far. Distance from Brooklands approx 11 miles, 15-20 mintues depending on traffic.
