Imbolc Theme - Revitalize Yourself with Music, Song, and Movement - Salem DUP
Details
Our February 6 dance is close to the Pagan holiday of Imbolc and we will celebrate Brigid, the Celtic Goddess with one dance and the evening will include two other dances that honor the Celtic tradition. Pam, Carmen, and Hirabai will lead us. Imbolc, which actually falls on Feb 2, is the Celtic Holiday where the stillness of winter shows the first stirrings of life. Imbolc is associated with the festival of Brigid, who is patron saint of metalworkers and the hearth. With the lighting of her flame and the hitting of the metalworker's hammer, sparks fly which ignite the creative within us, as poetry came to the ancient bards in an instant. Imbolc is the halfway point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. Join us on this special day as we stand on the threshold between the darkness of Winter and the full surge of Spring.
Experience the revitalizing and healing energy of music, spiritual song and movement of the Dances of Universal Peace. Dancers of all levels, including children, are able to follow along and dance together. Each dance is taught afresh at each gathering. Movements are simple circle dance movements. No experience is necessary. The songs and movements are fully taught and the dances are accompanied by musicians. Participants are welcome to dance or do the movements from their chairs, or simply sit and enjoy the experience. Some participants alternate between sitting and dancing.
Many of the dances use sacred phrases, music, and movements from many traditions of the earth including indigenous and earth and nature-based spirituality.
NOTE: Some of our dancers are highly SENSITIVE to FRAGRANCE (perfumes, colognes, hair spray). Please avoid using fragrances when attending the Dances.
