Salem Poetry Project Featuring Poems Banned in Florida

Details
In April 2024 Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill that stated Florida residents without children in a school district “may not object to more than one material per month.” Comforting after according to PEN America, Florida school districts have banned over 1,400 books since July 2021, though there is no way to know exactly how many books have been banned. Books of poetry have not excepted being banned. The Salem Poetry Project will feature readings from three books of the hundreds that have been banned in Florida schools, you may be surprised at what they are.
The Salem Poetry Project continues at the Bush Barn Annex, 600 Mission St SE, Salem. Parking for the Bush Barn and Bush House is located off of High Street and the Annex entrance is just to the left of the main entrance. Each week will present a featured reader followed by the Infamous Open Mic: 3 poems or five minutes whichever is first. Featured reader begins at 7:00 and the open mic will directly follow.
