Top Expert On Nutrition Controversies - Foods Most Scientists Agree Are Healthy

Details

The general public seems to believe that nutrition scientists disagree and change their minds all the time. From the perspective of Christopher Gardner, Ph.D., Nutrition Scientist and Professor of Medicine at Stanford University, there is far more consensus and less controversy in the field of nutrition than it appears.

In fact, despite a wide range of popular diets being promoted in traditional and social media, there are at least four factors that all of these diets agree on, and for all four, there is substantial room for improvement. Beyond the top four, there are an additional half dozen factors that almost all nutrition professionals agree on, except for some of the most extremely restrictive patterns (e.g., Ketogenic and low-fat Vegan). Most of this falls under the umbrella of a Whole Food Plant-Based diet and is completely consistent with Full Plate Living.

Workshop participants will learn how to apply the principles of “with what” and “instead of whatto provide the context that addresses most nutrition controversies. All of this and more will be presented by Professor Gardner with his unique blend of humor and evidence-based science.

Christopher Gardner, Ph.D., Professor of Medicine at Stanford and Nutrition Scientist, studies what to consume and avoid for optimal health and how to motivate healthy dietary behavior change. He is chair of the American Heart Association’s Nutrition Committee and serves on the 2025 US Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. He's conducted and published dozens of human nutrition trials. He coordinates a Summer Farm Camp for children with the Santa Clara Unified School District & Ardmore Foundation.
