Logs are often a fundamental thing we take for granted. They are also often a significant cause of cloud spend. Worst of all, most of them are something we pay to ship and store, but never even use.

For over 4 years, Weave has used a "log leasing" system built with Firestore and Stackdriver logging. This system has allowed us to save hundreds of thousands of dollars a year while still providing developers with the information they need.

This presentation will cover the core ideas of leasing and also include a small sample cli written in Go which illustrates a way to start doing log leasing yourself!
