What we’re about
Welcome to our Illuman of Utah Council group – a gathering of men committed to the profound journey of becoming better, more authentic individuals.
Founded in 2012 by the Franciscan mystic and teacher Richard Rohr, Illuman is a non-denominational, interfaith, and spiritually inclusive community that embraces men of all backgrounds and identities. We invite you to join us on this transformative path, regardless of any other characteristic that might make you feel excluded.
We recognize the importance of inner, spiritual work to foster personal growth and transformation. We offer these monthly Council Meetups as an avenue that provides unique opportunities for men to embark on the journey of self-discovery and authenticity.
In our gatherings, men are encouraged to speak without judgment or shame, express their emotions freely, and find healing from traumatized and toxic forms of masculinity. Illuman offers a supportive space where men can rediscover their authentic selves and discuss the real-life challenges associated with various roles such as son, father, grandfather, partner, provider, nurturer, lover, and friend.
Our emphasis on contemplative spiritual practices and unique ritual experiences sets us apart. Through the use of rituals, story, contemplative practices, and the Way of Council – a small group framework – we guide men in exploring the things that matter most. Nature, rhythm, stillness, and the power of shared experiences form the foundation of our gatherings, creating one-of-a-kind opportunities for men to delve into the deepest parts of their inner selves.
Join us on this transformative journey where men support one another through life's toughest challenges and transitions, forging deep and lasting friendships. Illuminate your path to personal growth and spiritual transformation with the company of like-minded individuals who are committed to authenticity and a deeper understanding of themselves.
Welcome to the Illuman brotherhood.

MEET OTHER MEN COMMITTED TO BECOMING BETTER, MORE AUTHENTIC MEN.
The Way of Council is a central and foundational practice for organizing gatherings within Illuman.
The Way of Council represents a rich blend of age-old communication practices from an array of wisdom traditions...
Speaking from the heart and listening from the heart are the two most important prerequisites in practicing the Way of Council. Being aware of how we communicate is also crucial.
We need to listen for more than the words. That means paying careful attention to the other person, not trying to think of how we’ll respond. We have to avoid “rehearsing” while the other person is still speaking.
