What we’re about

This is a meetup group for acoustic guitarists, singers, bassists, percussionists/hand-drummers, plus any other acoustic instrumentalists. The best way to get better at playing music is...drum roll...to play music! If you've ever wished you could learn to play guitar and sing in a fun and low-pressure way, now is your chance!

The purposes of this meetup group are three-fold:

  1. To learn and practice, and help others learn.
  2. To assemble groups to do performances when desired.
  3. To network with other musicians and make musical connections.

This group is open to skill levels from beginner thru long-time players...everyone is welcome! If you are a beginner, please know at least the basic open chords (G, C, D, Am, Em, A, E) and how to tune your instrument. You don't need to have any music theory knowledge, although you will likely pick up some basics along the way.

We will focus on acoustic-friendly songs...rock, country, blues, folk. We will work from one or more songbooks containing "chord charts" (ie. a lyric sheet with chord changes notated...very easy to follow). We will play songs in a circle by following these simple chord charts...as we move around the circle, everyone gets a chance to pick a song from the songbook, and we simply repeat that process. We will use the Setlist Helper app and PDF files in a tablet-friendly manner, but you can use printed paper copies if you so choose.

Most meetups will be kept free...there may be some along the way that have a charge for some reason.
