iNaturalist Walk & Nocturnal Blacklight Exploration @ Arboretum San Antonio

Join us for a City Nature Challenge event by RSVP only at the Arboretum San Antonio, a site not open to the general public. The event includes a guided daytime iNaturalist walk and an evening blacklight exploration along Salado Creek. Attend one session or stay for both as we document the Arboretum’s biodiversity. 🌞
Event #1: Guided iNaturalist Walk
🕔 Time: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Enjoy a guided walk along the Arboretum’s historic old golf course trails as we observe and record daytime species. We’ll document plants, birds, insects, reptiles, and other wildlife using the iNaturalist app contributing real data to global biodiversity science.

• Beginners and experienced iNaturalist users
• Families and nature enthusiasts
• Anyone curious about local flora and fauna
Event #2: Blacklight Exploration along Salado Creek Time: 7:30 PM – 11pm
Experience the magic of nocturnal life! Using UV blacklights, we’ll attract and document moths, beetles, flies, and other nighttime insects, along with any other creatures active after dark. This is a unique opportunity to explore a side of biodiversity most people never see.
Highlights:
• Learn how blacklights are used for insect observation
• Discover the hidden diversity of nocturnal species
• Practice low-light and night-time nature photography
How to Participate
• Bring a smartphone with the iNaturalist app installed (or a camera)
• Wear comfortable walking shoes
• Bring water and a flashlight or headlamp for the evening session
