About us
Canicross is a mashup of the words “canine” and “cross country”. It's a human & canine running team. A canine athlete with his human teammate!
San Diego Canicross Trailrunners, provides local Canicross MeetUp Events held on trails throughout San Diego County. Canicross Training is also provided to introduce beginners to this specialized sport. Upon request we can provide to you resource info to companies providing canicross gear to fully outfit yourself and your canine.
All our SDCT Event Organizers are experienced Canicrossers & Competitors and can support and guide you through the canicross experience.
Canicross Event MeetUps offer 3 Canicross Levels, and are posted with the Event descriptions. This will help you to run comfortably within your proficiency level.
No more feeling like you're at the back of the Pack, or that you're so far ahead you're out of site and running in a Pack of, ... one!.
CANICROSS LEVELS:
CANICROSS PACERS 10 -13+ minute milers
CANICROSS TRAILRUNNERS 9 - 7 minute milers
CANICROSS TRAIL BLAZERS - 8 to 6 minute milers
Yes, there are overlapping gray time zones to give you freedom to move through the Levels. You will improve your running proficiency as you move through the levels, ...or, chose a "paced" run to chill.
Personally, I'm a Canicross Pacer. I've had injuries, surgeries, age and an older dog that's made me take a slower pace.
Life! It's All Good!
We also encourage participation and membership in North American Canicross (NACC), https://nacanicross.com. NACC membership offers pertinent information on the sport of Canicross and Statewide & National Canicross racing info.
We'll offer informal Canicross Racing for our San Diego Canicross enthusiasts as interest grows.
Canicross Team Equipment Info:
Note: We can help you purchase equipment & fit your dog.
Human - Wears an especially designed waist belt which allows for "hands-free" running.
Canine - Wears a specifically designed/custom-fit harness, with attachment at the back for pulling during the run. No collar attachment allowed, as this can cause injury to the dog.
Both, are joined by an elastic bungee line that reduces the jerking line resistance during the run.
Hydration Pack & Treats - A must during long runs.
For the health of your dog, the meetups are held in temperatures cooler than 71°. Morning runs are preferred.
IMPORTANT- Do not come to the event with an aggressive or non-social dog. A 6 ft distance is required at all events. If your dog persists and you do not have a muzzle the Event Organizer will ask you to stay at the back of the Pack,... or leave the event.
If your dog injures, harms or destroys anything or anyone, you alone are finacially responsible for all costs involved.
If you have any questions, please msg me directly or your Event Organizer.
