Bike the Bay - Ride the Bayshore Bikeway via the Coronado Bay Bridge

Details

Ride the bridge, Bike the Bay! Cruise around San Diego Bay and enjoy the only opportunity to ride across the San Diego Coronado Bay Bridge. This non-competitive community bike ride is for riders of all abilities and will take us on a scenic, and primarily flat ride, around the San Diego Bay via the Bayshore Bikeway. Along the way, we will travel through the cities of Coronado, Imperial Beach, Chula Vista, and National City before finishing back at the start/finish line at Embarcadero Marina Park in downtown San Diego. The ride finished up with a post-ride festival with food, beverage, beer garden, and entertainment.

Note the ride is open to Class 1 and 2 e-bikes only, and the ride requires registration ($75) for the basic 25-mile ride and an additional $10 if you want to add-on the off-road portion. If you are not already registered, you can register online at https://www.bikethebay.net/ Proceeds from the Bike the Bay ride will benefit the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition (SDCBC), a non-profit organization dedicated to making bicycling better in San Diego. The proceeds from the optional off-road option, an 8-mile loop around the Otay Valley Regional Park, benefit the San Diego Mountain Biking Association o help improve trail access for mountain biking around San Diego County.

Riders will need to either pick up their wristbands and ride information packet on Saturday, August 27 from 2pm-5pm at Mission Brewing. 1441 L Street, or on the day of the ride at Embarcadero Marina Park South, beginning at 6am.

I am not sure how easy it will be to meet up as a group or stay together as a group on this ride because of the number of participants. I plan to be at the Midway Museum parking lot by about 6:15. If you want to give it a try, then meet me there. If you have not met me yet, hopefully I will be able to park my red Subaru Outback near the entrance to the lot as a landmark. Even if we fail to meet up or get separated, I think everyone can have a good time on this ride. The ride starts in waves that leave the Embarcadero Marina Park in downtown San Diego between 7 and 8 AM. I plan to head over to the start area about 6:30.

Please observe the following rules/restrictions so everyone can enjoy a fun and safe ride:

  • Helmets are mandatory for all riders
  • Riders must be over the age of 10 years old to participate
  • Remember to use sunscreen

Please arrive at the start with your water bottles filled. There will be 3 rest stops on the course supplied with water and refreshments:
#1 – Glorietta Bay Park Coronado
#2 – Bikeway Village – Imperial Beach
#3 – Pepper Park- National City .
Also bring your bike lock if you intend to stay for the festival. Bike racks will be available.
Hope to see you there!
