Sunday 25Feb24 9am Fay Avenue Extension Trail LaJolla
Details
Join us on Sunday 25Feb24 at 9am to uncover the hidden stories and ecological wonders that await along the Fay Avenue Extension Trail, a cherished link between Bird Rock and The Village, where nature embraces and rejuvenates the soul.
We’ll meet at Fay Avenue & Nautilus Streets Fire Station, (50 ft west of the traffic light).
This 1-mile mostly flat, easy, wide trail was an once an old San Diego Electric Railway; replaced after 1940 with our current rail trail. (The clean, dry asphalt trail is a welcome sight after much rain!) and home to a huge array of native/non-native medicinal and edible plants.
Our trail winds above little neighborhoods and striking ocean views. As we stroll, we’ll admire native and non-natives: century plants, fields of wood sorrel, oats & barley reminiscent of early settler’s; curley docks & sow thistle, dandelion & wild lettuce, lemonade berry, mustard, toyon, and dozens more, all creating a haven for native birds and butterflys. We thank the community for their constant effort to preserve its natural essence here.
Join us at 9am 2/25 to uncover the stories and wonders that make Fay Avenue Extension Trail a cherished link between Bird Rock and The Village.
