Welcome to a lovely nature tour at the Torrey Pines Extension Trail! This beautiful trail offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts. [However, please note that this an ecologically sensitive trail and not suited to strollers or dogs]. It will be a slow intentional walk, discussing plants/flora flanking the trail, up a gently sloping hill.
As we embark on our journey on the Torrey Pines Extension Trail [Mar Scenic and DAR trails], we will see some fascinating plant species that call this area home. Past notables include native orange dodder, miners lettuce (consumed by miners to prevent scurvy/high vitamin C content), sea dahlias, yerba santa (medicinal ancient plant),
wild cucumber, sacred datura, ladies tobacco, sagebrush “cowboy cologne”, aromatic white and black sage, sagebrush. And our beloved Torrey Pine!
As we take in the sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, we tread carefully and respect the sensitive trail's regulations. It's a journey that promises to be both visually captivating and educational as we discover all the remarkable plants that thrive in this unique environment.
