“Using Helvetica Majuscule Bold as my working type specimen and sole source material, this Typo-Geometric exercise explores a uniquely typographic approach to abstract mark-making while simultaneously highlighting similarities and anomalies with preexisting global signs and symbols.” - Daniel Hicks
We are pleased to present Typo-Geometrics, a mini solo exhibition by local artist Daniel Hicks at ArtHatch Gallery.
Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, March 14, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm, held in conjunction with the 2nd Saturday Art Walk. This special evening offers an opportunity to experience Daniel’s latest body of work in an intimate gallery setting while connecting with fellow art enthusiasts and members of the community.
Self-taught, multidisciplinary artist and designer Daniel Hicks (b. 1974, New York) spent two decades navigating the margins as a freelance graphic designer, operating primarily within the underground music and art scene, which he has interacted with and participated in since the late 1980s.
Having largely transitioned away from client-based work, Daniel’s focus now lies entirely on his own creative musings and manifestations. His insistence on reductive methods of creation, grid-based design principles, and deliberately narrow color palette allow him to transmit a coherent visual language while navigating multiple avenues of expression.
His work can be viewed online, in publications, or in-person at galleries and boutiques both domestically and internationally.
Currently, Daniel resides and works in San Diego, California.
