Rediscover stillness at Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve

Details
Join us for a gentle, calming walk through Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve—an unexpected patch of wild beauty nestled among the neighborhoods of Chula Vista.
As we enter the canyon, we’re welcomed by a sunlit garden of cacti and blooming succulents, a quiet introduction to the resilience and creativity of the natural world.
From there, we’ll follow a wide gravel path that winds along the California Riding and Hiking Trail—easy underfoot, yet rich with life and quiet invitation.
On one side, a thicket of native plants and overgrown creek brush forms a soft green corridor. Along the way, we may notice the striking shapes of snake cholla and the gentler curves of lemonadeberry bushes just beginning to fruit.
We’ll begin our walk with a grounding practice of breath and gratitude—offering presence to the land and ourselves.
Moving slowly and mostly in silence, we’ll attune to the small wonders around us: the way the breeze moves through canyon grasses, the shifting texture beneath our feet, the interplay of light and shadow across the trail.
Midway through, we’ll find a space to pause—to sit, rest, and listen more deeply.
There will be time for reflection, and if you feel moved, to share your experience in a quiet circle of community.
On the return walk, we’ll open to gentle conversation, taking time to connect—with the land, with each other, and with whatever stillness we may have found.
Whether you’re arriving with questions, hopes, or simply a desire to slow down, we welcome you to walk with us through Rice Canyon’s living landscape.
We look forward to sharing this space with you!
