Returning to Rice Canyon: A Summer Walk in Ongoing Relationship

Details
What does it mean to return to walk the same path with new eyes, in a new season?
This summer, we return to Rice Canyon Open Space Preserve, a place we last visited in late spring, when the succulents bloomed and the canyon brushed us with fresh green.
Now, under summer’s golden light, we are invited back to witness what has changed, what remains, and what continues to unfold in quiet rhythm.
Nestled gently among the neighborhoods of Chula Vista, Rice Canyon offers a landscape that is both familiar and ever-evolving. The wide gravel path still curves along the California Riding and Hiking Trail, and yet the feel beneath our feet, the colors of the land, and the air itself hold summer’s subtle shift.
We’ll begin with a grounding breath and a moment of gratitude for the land, for this season, and for the deepening relationship we cultivate with each visit.
If you feel called, you are welcome to bring a simple offering for the land, something from your home or your heart.
Moving mostly in silence, we’ll walk slowly through the canyon, opening our senses to the details that may have softened or intensified not only in the land around us, but in the shifting terrain of our own inner world.
Midway, we’ll pause for quiet reflection, listening to the land, our bodies, and whatever feelings arise from this return.
As always, space is held for sharing, or for simply being held in the presence of community and place.
On the return walk, we’ll open to conversation, walking alongside one another in ease and connection.
Each walk is part of an ongoing relationship with the land, with ourselves, and with those who share the trail.
We look forward to walking with you!
