What we’re about
The San Diego Seratones Choir was formed in 2014 by director Dr. Momilani Ramstrum. She created the group as a place where vocalists of all levels come together in a supportive community, singing music in 2, 3, and 4 part harmony in many languages from around the world (world, folk, classical, jazz standards, hymns, gospel, and sea shanties). Dr. Ramstrum believes that singing benefits us on so many levels (immune function, physiological improvements, quality of life, stress reduction, breathing strength, and brain adaptability - neuroplasticity) and that we all can sing for our entire life!
The Seratones Choir is offered as a Continuing Education class in the San Diego Community College District, Emeritus Program. A new semester begins January 27, 2026 and if you love to sing, you are welcome to join the group. There are no auditions and no cost! The ability to read music is helpful but not needed, as recordings are provided for all music.
The Seratones rehearse in the Continuing Ed Building, Mesa Campus, CE room 118, on Tuesday evenings from 6-9 PM. The rehearsals and both online and in-person. So even if you can't be there in person, you can still sing from where-ever you are!
Rehearsals include breathing exercises to strengthen flexibility, range, and to release blocks to express the natural voice. Choir members also do solfege exercises (Do re mi fa so…) to help learn music more efficiently. The Seratones perform one to three times each semester in the community. The group members are diverse, interesting and lively, with lots of support, smiles, and laughter.
