Welcome to the San Diego Social Chess Club!
Our meetups occur every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM whether posted or not at our home location at the Reading Cinemas (now out of business) Town Square in the Clairemont Square Shopping Center, out in front of the old movie theaters location where there are several outdoor tables and chairs with limited shade available.
Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player, this group is for anyone looking for a casual game of chess in a fun and friendly environment. Come join us to enjoy the company of fellow chess enthusiasts! You do not have to be officially registered with the group to join in on the fun. Just show up! Although, we do encourage people to register and sign up for the events, it is not required. In fact, people often show up without having registered. Even so, we do our very best to accommodate and make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Typically, we have 4 to 8 players every Saturday, regardless of how many have actually signed in for an event. Of the people that show up, we could have anything from a master chess player to beginners. Love to see them all.
A new tea house is opening in the group of restaurants that surround our location, so we're excited about that.
We may post photos of our events online. If you'd prefer to not be included in club photos, please let us know. Thank you.
Donations, although not required with this group, are very much appreciated if you decide you'd like to help support this club. Any and all funds collected will go directly towards helping to support the San Diego Social Chess Club Meetup page (approx. $299.00/12 mos.), obtain gaming equipment and for future planned annual prizes for the gatherings.
