Welcome to the San Diego Social Chess Club!
Our meetups occur every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM whether posted or not at our home location at the Reading Cinemas (unfortunately, the theaters are now out of business) Town Square in the Clairemont Square Shopping Center, out in front of the old movie theaters location where there are several outdoor tables and chairs with shade available.
Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player, this group is for anyone looking for a casual game of chess in a fun and friendly environment. Come join us and enjoy the company of fellow chess enthusiasts! We do encourage people to register and sign up for the events, but it is not required. Just show up and play! We do our very best to accommodate and make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Typically, we have 4 to 8 players every Saturday, regardless of how many have actually signed in for an event. Of the people that show up, we could have anything from a master chess player to beginners. Love to see them all.
A new tea house has opened in the group of restaurants that surround our location, so we're excited about that.
We may post photos of our events online. If you'd prefer to not be included in club photos, please let us know. Thank you. Also, any member is welcome to post event pictures.
Donations are very much appreciated, if you decide you'd like to help support this club. Any and all funds collected will go directly towards helping to support the San Diego Social Chess Club Meetup page (approx. $299.00/12 mos.), obtain gaming equipment and for future planned annual prizes for the gatherings. The plan and my desire is to eventually hold annual competitions for a grand prize.
