For our next meeting, we’ll be focusing on motivation—how and why people initiate change, what helps sustain effort over time, and why wanting something often isn’t enough to make it happen. This session follows naturally from our recent discussion of personality. While personality helps us understand relatively stable patterns, motivation focuses on dynamic processes: what moves people to act (or not), how motivation is shaped by context, and why certain approaches to motivation backfire.

We’ll use Self-Determination Theory as a central framework, especially its distinction between different qualities of motivation (not just how much motivation someone has). We’ll also touch on complementary perspectives that help explain common experiences such as burnout, procrastination, and stalled change.

No prior background in psychology is required. As always, the emphasis will be on discussion, reflection, and real-world application.
