This month, the Lindy Bomb again comes to Ward Canyon Park.

Lindy Bomb is a fun monthly outdoors Lindy dance event. It happens on Saturday at the end of the month on the otherwise very uneven schedule. As any outdoor event, it is heavily reliant on the weather and other factors, so check the announcements at: facebook.com/SanDiegoLindyCIRCLE (the event link is facebook.com/events/4031406040484360/).

The dance goes to DJ music for 2 1/2 hours. There is typically no lesson, but the event is small and atmosphere is friendly, so if you are looking for a lesson, it will not hurt to ask.

Venue: an outdoor space at the Ward Canyon Park next to playground. The area is a smallish concrete surface with concrete tiles in places. Metal park benches are available.

Since the surface is non-slippery concrete:

  • do not bring the good dancing shoes
  • be gentle to yours and your partner's knees

There is a fair amount of shade from the trees, but it is not totally blocking, so using protection from the sun is wise. Bring your own water bottle.

The crowd: usually about 20 dancers, almost all above the intermediate level. Since event is so small, the ratio between followers and leads can greatly vary either way. As is the case with any sparsely attended event, bringing your own dance partner might be essential.

Logistics: the parking at the park on Saturdays is quite tight. The park's parking lot, with an entrance off the 39th street, is tiny. Street parking around the park is possible, but is also tight. Allow at least 10 minutes for parking.
Finding the dancing spot is easy, as this neighborhood park is small. Look for the playground structure and go in this direction.
The event is free (suggested donation to good causes is $5).

Overall: a fun little-known outdoors event. If you've been to Lindy Bombs at other locations and liked them, try this one for size. Without a lesson, the event is not the best starting point for an absolute beginner, especially a budding lead.
