Audio for Virtual Reality with OSSIC

Details

Join us on 4/3 as OSSIC (https://www.ossic.com/) welcomes us to their downtown offices for an evening of food, friends and fantastic audio. The team at OSSIC are innovating in fully-immersive audio technologies. Their software is changing the way you hear in game engines and VR, and they are creators of OSSIC X, the world’s first 3D-audio smart headphone. Two of OSSIC's talented team members will share their insights this evening. OSSIC is generously providing pizza and beer for this event.

Topic 1: Audio for Virtual Reality (Sally-anne Kellaway)

In this presentation, Sally will cover her perspective of developing audio for all scales of interactive vr applications - the content of this presentation is designed to give insight in to the complexity of designing for this new medium with the vision of empowering professionals and practitioners involved in all elements of the development process to use sound for immersion (and not boredom!).

Topic 2: VR audio workshop (Kedar Shashidhar)

Bios:

Sally-anne Kellaway is the Creative Director at Ossic, and is the biggest technical audio nerd you’ll ever meet. This brings together some of Sal’s favourite things - daydreaming, evangelising cool things, organising things and Audio Design for VR. Sal is still riding the VR hype train because she believes VR is the future of entertainment, or the world in general. Sal is enabling this future by founding the Virtual Reality Content Creators network for Australia (VRCC_AUS) and the IGDA Special Interest Group for Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Realities. Sally presents at conferences worldwide about the role of Audio in Virtual Reality, as well as research conducted from her Masters course in Audio and Acoustics and Diversity in STEAM fields. Sal has been named as one of MCV Pacific’s Most Influential Women in Games, and in MCV Pacific’s 30 Under 30.

Kedar Shashidhar is the Associate Creative Director at OSSIC and has been obsessed with spatial audio in VR, games, and music since before it was cool. Working in all facets of production, Kedar has run binaural dummy head & ambisonic recording sessions and helped develop spatial spatial audio toolsets including Impulsonic's Phonon 3D (now Steam Audio). He also formed an indie game studio, Blackout VR, focused on developing audio only games. Currently at OSSIC Kedar works on creating kickass spatial music, games, and VR experiences. He also works actively with other developers and artists to help them establish pipelines, best practices, and approaches for creating 3D audio content.

OSSIC is located in the former NBC building downtown at 225 Broadway Suite 650, 92101. You can park for the event at Horton Plaza (first hour free), or find street parking or another downtown parking garage.
