Covid-19 pandemic has hit the workforce hard. As of June, US weekly jobless claims hit 1.9 million, bringing the 11-week total to nearly 43 million. The level of unemployment remains stubbornly high. The Federal Reserve estimates that up to 47 million jobs could be lost. No matter where the numbers ultimately end up, economists agree that the pandemic will have an uneven economic impact — and all signs indicate that minorities and women will be hardest hit.
Despite the pandemic and looming recession, much of the tech industry continues to post job listings and hire employees. Many companies are planning to continue offering summer internships, though with a work-from-home twist.
