Trekking Pole Clinic w/ Optional 6 Mile Hike

Details
Most hikers I see using trekking poles (aka. "sticks"), are not using them effectively (Including the hikers in the event photo!). Regardless of age or ability, correct use will: Improve stability and safety; Reduce stress on joints; Burn more calories and improve fitness.
2 years ago, I didn't think I needed sticks to hike. I was WRONG!
We'll cover: Equipment set up, including proper strap use (Very important!); Different techniques for ascending and descending (they are VERY different). We'll practice the three different modes to commit them to muscle memory. Once you've done that, you don't have to think about it anymore, regardless of changes in terrain.
Following the clinic, I'll lead a nice 6 mile hike through Hidden Canyon and Waterdog Park, with varied terrain, so we can practice our new skills! The park is only 280 acres but is very unique, with some panoramic views, interesting history and quirks.
Wear proper hiking shoes or boots.
If you plan to join me for the hike, wear layers, bring water, a snack, sun screen and bug replant if you are sensitive (bugs are not usually an issue).
I'm happy to show up for one or two people. However, if nobody RSVPs, I won't be there. Please mute your phone during the clinic.
EQUIPMENT
You can get a serviceable aluminum pair* of poles for under $40. Please make sure they include adjustable straps, and have a round shaped top (not a cane handle). Any rubber boots at the base should be removable, to expose a metal (carborundum) tip. Here is an excellent article, explaining why you should use sticks, including information on buying them.

I have one extra pair, if someone wants to try them out.
