Most hikers I see using trekking poles (including the ones in the picture!) are not using them correctly. Correct use increases stability and safety, relieves pressure on joints, reduces fatigue and provides an upper body workout, burning more calories.
We meet at Hidden Canyon park in Belmont. We'll discuss proper pole adjustment, strap use and the various techniques used in different terrain, to commit them to muscle memory.
After the clinic, we'll go on an optional 6 mile hike through Hidden Canyon and Waterdog Park to practice our new skills. The parks are unique, offering panoramic views, varied terrain, interesting history and several oddities! You can buy a serviceable pair* of aluminum poles for $30 at Big 5 or on amazon. I have an extra pair if you want to try them out first. Contact me with questions. *Using one pole is like one hand clapping!
