December Women's Poetry: Gift a Poem & Be Gifted a Poem
Details
Suggested December Theme:
Gift a Poem & Be Gifted a Poem
You are invited to write or find two poems:
One as a gift for one of the other women.
A second poem creatively wrapped with an uplifting winter theme to read aloud to the group.
The invitation: Write a poem that would inspire, nurture, encourage, empower, or overall help another woman feel seen and important. Find a creative way to festively wrap the poem in winter tones, and bring the wrapped poem. We will each get to pick one poem from the selection. You may choose to read the poem you have been gifted, or save it for another time to open when you feel a need for inspiration.
If you choose not to read your gifted poem, feel free to bring another poem to read. This could be any poem of your choosing, or possibly one with an uplifting winter theme.
QUICK LOOK:
Join us for an enchanting evening of poetry as we celebrate the power of words and the beauty of voices. The Multicultural Women's Poetry Group is excited to host this event, where we join to share extraordinary creations from our favorite poets and our own poetic creations. From thought-provoking pieces or heart-warming verses, this evening promises to be a captivating journey into the world of poetry.
Whether you identify as a poet, an aspiring writer, or simply love the spoken word, our 2nd Friday Poetry Night offers an open and inclusive space for all to express themselves. We encourage attendees to participate by reading from their own poetry or reciting works by their favorite poets. This is an incredible opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, immerse yourself in the world of poetry, and support the immense talent within our community.
Join us as we uplift and empower one another through the universal language of poetry.
IT'S IN THE DETAILS
What to bring:
Any poetry you would like to share aloud. This month, we have a suggested theme, which is just an invention and not a requirement; any poetry may be shared. You are free to bring your own non-alcoholic beverage or snack; we do not provide these items.
Inspiration:
We will post poetry writing prompts for the month that may inspire your first poem or your billionth poem. Funny, true stories, words play, emotional, dim or bright, rhyming or not, long or short…. Give it a go.
Our Theme this month:
Gift a Poem & Be Gifted a Poem
- You are invited to write or find two poems:
~ One as a creatively wrapped gift for one of the other women.
~ A second poem with an uplifting winter theme to read aloud to the group and up for discussion and sharing.
What we will do:
Each person who wishes can share their selection and any thoughts about their pieces, such as why they like them or what inspired them, or whether they'd like to add that color. Then, we will open it up for supportive discussion from the “I” & “and” perspectives. Each person can share for up to 6 minutes, giving everyone who wishes a chance to speak.
What to share in the discussion:
Anything you feel comfortable sharing. These could be the feelings, meanings, or questions that arise for you. It could be the reason why you resonate with a piece, including a personal experience or memory. Also, you may have insights into the writing, such as the historical context of its composition, the author, or other interesting details. The goal is to have an engaging, supportive discussion. This is not a critique environment. All discussions are intended to explore how the art shared during the event makes us feel and to provide support and encouragement to all of our authors who wish to breathe life into the words they tattooed as a gift to our ears.
