2nd Friday Women's Poetry Night: Bring Poetry to Share and Discuss

Details

Join us for an enchanting evening of poetry as we celebrate the power of words and the beauty of voices. The Multicultural Women's Poetry Group is excited to host this event, where we join to share extraordinary creations from our favorite poets and our own poetic creations. Whether thought-provoking pieces or heart-warming verses, this evening promises to be a captivating journey into the world of poetry.

Whether you identify as a poet, an aspiring writer, or simply love the spoken word, our 2nd Friday Poetry Night offers an open and inclusive space for all to express themselves. We encourage attendees to participate by reading from their own poetry or reciting works by their favorite poets. This is an incredible opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, submerge into the world of poetry, and support the immense talent within our community.

Join us as we uplift and empower one another through the universal language of poetry.

Quick Look:

What to bring: Any poetry you would like to share aloud.
Inspiration: We will post poetry writing prompts for the month that may inspire your first poem or your billionth poem. Funny, true stories, words play, emotional, dim or bright, rhyming or not, long or short…. Give it a go, and feel free to bring it to share with us.
What we will do: Each person who wishes to can share their selection and any thoughts about their pieces, such as why you like them or what inspired them if they'd like to add that color. Then, we will open it up for supportive discussion from the “I,” “and” perspective. Each person can share for up to 6 minutes to allow time for everyone who wishes to have a chance to share.
What to share in the discussion: Anything you feel comfortable sharing. This could be the feeling, meaning, or questions that arise for you. It could be the reason why you resonate with a piece, including a personal experience or memory. Also, you may have insights about the writing, whether related to the history of when it was written, the author, or other interesting information. The goal is to have engaging, supportive discussion. This is not a critique environment. All discussions are intended to explore how the art that is shared during the event makes us feel and to provide support and encouragement to all of our authors who wish to breathe life into the words they tattooed onto reams of pressed dead trees as a gift to our ears.
