Bitcoin Pizza Day is celebrated globally on May 22 to commemorate the first-ever real-world commercial transaction using cryptocurrency. On that date in 2010, Florida programmer Laszlo Hanyecz bought two large Papa John's pizzas for 10,000 BTC, worth about $41 at the time. The transaction took 5 days to complete and the payment is now worth almost $1B.
