Shards of the Ruby Rod — Evil, but Professional (D&D 3.5e)
Details
Long before mortals, before even Good and Evil took shape, the universe was Law vs. Chaos or existence vs. . The greatest champion of Law was Asmodeus, an angel who never broke the rules—only learned how to use them better than the gods themselves.
He proved something terrifying:
Law without consequence is meaningless.
The gods agreed. They signed the Pact Primeval, creating Hell, punishment, and the system that governs every soul.
And then, later… they tried something else.
They staged a final contest—champions of Good and Evil, armed with artifacts of ultimate power. But Evil cheated. Five relics were forged instead of three.
Evil was about to win.
That’s when Zaphkiel, judge of the heavens, made the choice he was never meant to make. He abandoned Law, manifested in the battle, and erased Evil outright—shattering Asmodeus’s Ruby Rod into 66 fragments scattered across the world and beyond.
Then the truth was buried.
The world was sealed inside a divine barrier. The Outer Planes faded into myth. The gods turned away. And “Good” became something enforced, unquestioned, and absolute.

You are not heroes.
You are the ones who see the cracks.
You will play villains in a controlled, sanctified world—figures who scheme, manipulate, conquer, and survive under a system that calls itself perfect.
You may:
- Hunt the shattered fragments of the Ruby Rod
- Seek the lost artifacts of Evil’s champions
- Build power: cults, guilds, armies, conspiracies
- Tear down institutions—or quietly corrupt them from within
Or ignore all of that and carve your own path.
This is a player-driven, sandbox campaign after the early levels.
The world reacts to you. Your actions create consequences, enemies, and opportunities.

Your Contract with the Table
This is evil with intent, not chaos for its own sake.
- No PvP / no party sabotage
- Cooperative villains (selfish is fine—disloyal is not)
- Plans, schemes, long-term goals
- Consequences matter
You are not a fit here if you want:
- Random violence or “lol I burn it because I’m evil”
- Disruptive play or spotlight stealing
- Betraying the party “because character”
You are a great fit here if you enjoy:
- Dark epic storytelling
- Power-building and manipulation
- Strategic, thinking villains
- A world that pushes back
