Sandhill Chapter of the Florida Trail Association
Welcome to the Sandhill Chapter of the Florida Trail Association's Meetup page!
The Sandhill Chapter is a community of Florida Trail Association members in the following counties: Alachua, Marion, Levy, and Gilchrist. We have activity leaders that plan hikes, provide outdoor skills workshops, trail maintenance, and community events in our region.

While most events are open to everyone, some events are only available to Florida Trail Association members. We encourage everyone to become members and support the nonprofit responsible for developing, maintaining, protecting, and promoting a network of hiking trails throughout the state.
Meetup is a way for us to advertise our events and strengthen our community.
If you have any questions, please message admins Leo Dugger or Ashley Kusel.
Happy hiking!

Join the Sandhill Chapter of the Florida Trail Association as we take a guided tour of the Fort, walk the trail and dive into Ocala's history. Fort King includes the reconstructed fort, a nature walking trail that includes the Seep Spring, Chickee, Welcome Center, and Archaeology Resource Center.
The Archaeology Center showcases artifacts found on-site at Fort King. It offers education about the archaeological process that took place for the re-creation of the Fort King replica and projects like the blacksmith shop. The Center also features new artifacts that have never been seen by the public and were discovered during the blacksmith shop excavation.
There is also an interpretive trail that descends from the top of the hill (where the fort stands) to the Seep Spring and down through a ravine that includes both foreign and native plant and tree species.
About: Fort King was a United States military fort in north central Florida, near what later developed as the city of Ocala. It was named after U.S. Army Colonel William King, commander of the 4th Infantry Regiment and the first American governor of the provisional West Florida region.
Optional: lunch after at Fat Boys BBQ, 4132 E Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala
