Description: Let’s paddle board, kayak or canoe-even small electric powered are OK. We will put in at Powers Park Boat Ramp and paddle towards Palm Point at leisurely pace then towards Prairie Creek near Kate’s Fish Camp and back out of water by ~11:00AM. Pack snacks/lunch/ plenty of non-alcoholic beverages. We will stop periodically to view wildlife, eat and rest during our morning paddle. Abundant wildlife to see.
Florida public waters require safety standards. It is mandatory to have a US Coast Guard-approved PFD, Personal Flotation Device, (Life Jacket) for every person on board kayak or canoe and a loud sound-making device like a whistle.” Vessels 16-26 ft require different regulations. Refer to Florida Kayak and Boat Registration laws for boats of 16-26 ft. length and/or motorized vessels including trolling motors.
General Information: Newnans Lake is ~ 1.12 miles wide, home to many forms of wildlife and designated as a protected site by Alachua County. Lake was originally known as Lake Pithlachocco.
