Description: Join the Sandhill Chapter of the Florida Trail Association for a 4.3-mile hike at Halpata Tastanaki Nature Preserve, generally considered an easy route. The main trailhead is the Pruitt Trailhead, located on County Road 484, across from the Dunnellon Airport. This location provides access to trails that wind through prairie, oak hammocks, and pine forests.
The preserve is named after Seminole leader Hálpata Tastanaki (Chief Alligator) who, along with Osceola, Jumper and approximately 1,000 warriors, took part in the largest battle of the Second Seminole Indian War in 1836.

General Information: Bring a hat, water, sunscreen, proper footwear, and snack if you like. Bug spray is always a good idea. Also have an emergency medical card (info) in your pack.
