Inglis Island Ditch of Dreams Hike

Location: Lake Rousseau Dam and Recreation Area, 10913-11025 W Riverwood Dr., Crystal River

Description: Join the Sandhill Chapter of the Florida Trail Association for a 7.3 mile hike, starting at the Inglis Dam. We will walk through pine and hardwood forest to a point overlooking Lake Rousseau and the entrance to what was to be the Florida Barge canal. Then we will walk along a partly shaded area to the control facility of the locks. From there we will loop back on a paved section to the base of the Inglis Dam.
Directions: From Dunnellon:Take US 41 S crossing the Withlacoochee River where after crossing the bridge turn right onto W. Dunnellon Road to RIGHT onto N Northcut RD take left onto W.Riverside Rd. From Dunnellon this is about a 20minute drive.
From Gainesville: Take SR121 ,Williston Rd. to Williston, turn left at the stop sign, turn right at first traffic light. At next traffic light, just before the
McDonalds, turn left on US 41 South to Dunnellon-- then use above directions.
Other items of interest about area/activity: for example: Western Terminus Florida Barge Canal, Inglis Dam and Inglis Locks still remain from this 1960 Cross Florida Barge Canal boondoggle. Pavilions for viewing Lake Rousseau, birding and relaxing.

General Information: Bring a hat, water, sunscreen, proper footwear, and snack if you like. Bug spray is always a good idea. Also have an emergency medical card (info) in your pack.
