Description: Join the Sandhill Chapter of the Florida Trail Association for a 6.2-mile hike, generally considered an easy route. With its mix of pine flatwoods, bayhead swamps, hardwood forest and scrub habitat, Paynes Prairie says that the Chacala Trail offers more diversity than any other trail at the state park. The well-groomed path is carpeted by pine needles making for firm and comfortable walking. It is also well shaded to keep things cool. Bring your Florida State Park pass for free entry. There are picnic tables in the parking area where we can grab a snack after the hike.

Directions: The turn into the trail’s parking lot will be the first right turn after the ranger station…..across from Puggy Rd. There is a road sign at that turn.

Fees: $6 per vehicle (two to eight people); $4 single-occupant vehicle
General Information: Bring a hat, water, sunscreen, proper footwear, and snack if you like. Bug spray is always a good idea. Also have an emergency medical card (info) in your pack.
