Jackson Gap Trail Hike

Time: Sign in 8:15am-- Hike at 8:30 am
Allow 5-8 minutes to drive from park entrance to visitor center lot
Description: This will be 3-mile hike on the Jackson Gap Trail, starting from the Visitor Center Parking Lot.
We will walk through oak, pine and palmetto forest on nice trails with some sandy sections. We will pass a historic homesite and a sawgrass swamp. There are some gentle ups and downs and a few roots in the trail. Trail is mostly shaded but prepare to be warm. We might see some wildlife and birds.
After the hike you may check out the visitors center and climb the observation tower for a scenic view of Paynes Prairie.
Parking Fee: $6.00/car OR State Park Pass-Paynes Prairie Main Entrance near Micanopy
Bring: Water, Hat, sunscreen, bug spray (it’s tick and yellow fly season) & binoculars.
Bathroom: YES, near the parking lot on the way to the trail

Directions: Go to Paynes Prairie State Park Main entrance off US441- 100 Savannah Blvd, Micanopy
Check in with Ranger then follow road and signs to the Visitors Center.
