AUGUST San Diego Corgi Meetup - Nate's Point & Stroll to Bea Evenson Fountain

Details

It's time again for a stroll thru Balboa Park. This would be a leisurely stroll if it were just you and your pup(s); but with 50+ corgis it becomes a comical corgi calvalcade!

We'll meet at Nate's Point and let our belly dusters romp free for an hour. Then at 11AM, we'll leash-up for a corgi parade to the Bea Evenson Fountain, where the pups can cool off along the fountain's edge. Then you're welcome to enjoy a few of the 1200 acres on your own. Just imagine 50 corgis casually strolling by the Lilly pond! Maybe we should warn the Koi?

Balboa Park: ranked as one of the best parks in the world, by the Project for Public Spaces; home to one of the top 12 rose garden's in the world; and visited by more than 500,000 people annually. Leashed dogs are permitted to roam all 1200 acres and there are 3 designated off-leash areas in the park: Nate's Point, Morley Field - northwest of tennis courts, and Grape Street - at certain times. Nate's Point is the only fenced area; but at 2.3 acres, your dog may never see the fence.

Who is "Nate"? Nate Wells is a now retired city employee who, on his own time, "took an ugly pile of dirt and weeds and transformed it". See 2001 San Diego Union Article

Who is "Bea Evenson"? She was the organizer of the "Committee of 100" which was formed in 1967 to preserve and protect the Spanish Colonial architecture in Balboa Park.
