Wildwood Glen Lane
Wildwood Glen Lane, Wildwood Glen Ln, California, CA, USThis is a hike on the abandoned part of Old Highway 80 near Descanso that is now called Wildwood Glen Lane, an easy out-and-back hike of about 3.3 miles round trip. As an encore, some hikers may want to hike up an adjacent hill for a better view. It was inspired by a Youtube video whose title screen is shown above. To watch the video, use this link: youtu.be/V-z9cPme66s
We've done this hike before, most recently on May 14, 2024. For details, including some pictures, see www.meetup.com/sandiegodayhikers/events/300970911
We'll meet at 9:30 AM at the west end of the publicly accessible part of Wildwood Glen Lane (N 32 50.470 W 116 37.859). There is a parking area there. At 9:45 AM we'll step off.
SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO: Go east on Interstate 8, and exit at Highway 79. Turn left and go north about 0.85 miles and turn left into Wildwood Glen Lane. Follow it approximately 0.88 miles to the locked gate.
We will hike the Wildwood Glen Lane all the way to the west end, where the road was cut off by construction on Interstate 8. Many years ago, I drove this part in a 4WD truck, before it was closed to vehicle traffic.
After we return, I hope to ascend the hill north of Wildwood Glen Lane for a better view. This part of the hike will be optional.
Parts of Wildwood Glen Lane are overgrown, and the trails up the hill are steep, so long pants and hiking shoes are recommended. Use sunscreen, and take some water. No restrooms, but plenty of bushes. Take a camera if you wish.
Leashed dogs are allowed.

This is the hike that I considered doing on my 80th birthday, but it was too hot!

Blue Sky Ecological Reserve, 16275 Espola Rd, Poway, CA, US5.5 miles 550ft ascent. No hazards.
Description:
A hilly hike along Green Valley Truck Trail through Blue Sky Ecological Reserve up to Lake Poway, then a loop around the lake and back through Blue Sky. We last visited here on 3/25. https://www.meetup.com/sandiegodayhikers/events/306776036The dam is owned by the City of Poway and was constructed between 1970 and 1972 with the purpose of storing and supplying water, and providing recreational facilities to the community. A $3.2-million bond issue for construction of the dam was rejected by voters in 1964 and 1966, but passed with 87 percent in favor in 1969. Year-round fishing for trout, bass, catfish, sunfish and bluegill is available at the lake.
Meet at 9:30m at the south end of Blue Sky Ecological Reserve parking on Espola Road in Poway. There are several rest rooms on this trail.
FROM SAN DIEGO: Take I-15 north and exit at Rancho Bernardo Road. Turn right and go about four miles east until it becomes Espola Road and then turns south in a sweeping right hand bend. Turn left into the parking lot and continue to the end.
