This is a moderately-paced out-and-back walk along the shores of San Diego Bay and the Liberty Station inlet. The total distance should be about 4-6 miles, entirely level except for one small bridge. Wear good walking shoes. The hike is entirely on pavement, except for one short passage under N. Harbor Dr.

We'll meet at 9:00 AM at the parking lot just west of the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Survivors Park, just across the street from San Diego Airport (Thomas 1288 F1, N 32 43.738 W 117 11.997). Parking is free, but limited to four hours. That should be long enough for this hike. We'll step off at 9:15 AM.

If you are driving to the starting point, follow the usual route to San Diego Airport from either northbound or southbound Interstate 5. As you pass the airport on N. Harbor Dr., go past the junction with Harbor Island Dr. and turn left at the following traffic light, which is signed for Spanish Landing Park. Then turn left again, go through the first parking lot and follow a narrow, paved driveway about 0.3 miles to the second parking lot next to the Cancer Survivors Park.

You can also take the number 923 MTS bus from downtown. It runs every half hour and stops on N. Harbor Dr. near the first parking lot.

There is even a Car2Go charging station in the first parking lot, and a pedestrian walkway from the west end of Terminal 2 of San Diego Airport.

Some sights along the way are:

Cancer Survivors Park

construction site of replica of the San Salvador (the ship itself has been moved to National City)

USS Recruit, a ship used to train sailors

submarine monuments
