This is a short hike, about two miles long. There are some short, steep climbs, but the trail is a well-beaten path. There are good views of Lakeside and Lindo Lake. We'll hike through the preserve and then return on roads and sidewalks. Leashed dogs are allowed.

The high point of the hike is an odd structure (a heap of stone and concrete) that is alleged to be the remains of some kind of castle called the Whitaker House.

The USGS topo for this area shows a benchmark near the trail. We found it last time, at a place with good views.

SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO: Go east on Interstate Highway 8, exit at Los Coches Rd. Go north about 1.2 miles to the trailhead on the right side of the road.

A review of my previous exploration of this trail is available on my mapping blog at http://www.efghmaps.com/blog/20090824.htm .

We did this hike on March 20, 2014.
