There are three signed entrances to Daley Ranch in Escondido. We'll start at one of the two smaller ones, at the foot of Caballo Trail, and hike up to the summit of Stanley Peak. There will be about 1300 feet of elevation gain, with some good views along the way and from the summit. The round-trip distance should be about 7 miles and is moderately strenuous. We last did this hike in March 2015.

We'll meet at 9:00 AM at the Caballo Trail Staging Area behind the Escondido Humane Society at 3450 E. Valley Parkway, Escondido 92027 (N 33 9.57 W 117 1.98) and step off at 9:15 AM.

SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO: Go north on I-15 and exit at El Norte Parkway (after Hwy 78). Follow El North Parkway roughly five miles east and turn left on Valley Parkway (which becomes Valley Center Rd. to the north). Go about a half mile north and turn left on Beven Dr.

Follow Beven Drive west across Escondido Creek, and turn right on Save a Life Way toward Escondido Humane Society. Just before you reach the Humane Society, turn left into a large unpaved parking area. That is the Caballo Trail Staging Area. Meet near the signed trailhead. Allow at least 45mins for the drive.

There is a sign for Caballo Trail on Valley Parkway, but it is very small, and motorists are not likely to see it.

Wear good hiking shoes, use sun protection, and take plenty of water. Take a camera if you wish. No lunch stop is planned, but you can take a snack. We will rest at the peak.

Leashed dogs are allowed.
